Pizza, Texas-Style

Mark has been a pizza lover practically since birth, and I like greasy, floppy pies myself - so last night we did a pizza as only Texans could do. Going off a basic crust recipe, I slathered Stubb's Barbecue Sauce on and finished with a layer of cheese, grilled chicken, chipotles, and red onions. We did half the pie in cheddar and half with mozzarella. Personally, I thought the mozzarella side tasted better - cheddar is just too greasy and heavy for a pie.

I Say Tomato

I don't have much to say in the way of introduction. I'm a writer. I write about food (and foreclosures, and health, and anything that anyone will pay me for). I guess that's about it. So I guess I'll dive right in.

Tomatoes are a huge staple in our kitchen, and I prefer to grow them in our backyard. Part of this is because I am lazy and do not want to go to the store every time I run out.

So anyway, I planted three Sweet 100 vines this year, along with a determinate variety that I've forgotten the name of. This morning, I found that the first fruits were finally ripening. Check it out:

Next year I would like my vegetable garden to be a lot more extensive. We are big fans of Mexican cuisine, so I'd like to design a garden that will help us in that regard. I'm planning on several tomato varieties, some tomatillos and, of course, peppers. I planted some bell and jalapeno a few weeks ago but I think I should have done it earlier. We'll see what happens.
